Participation in the 38th Caretakers of the Environment International 2024

A group of 6 students and 2 teachers took part in a youth international conference about environmental conservation and cultural exchange in Landskrona, Sweden from 24 June to 29 June 2024.

This academic conference aims to connect students from around the world to exchange their views and knowledge learned in their own region on pressing environmental issues. In addition, cultural exchange is also promoted and encouraged among students throughout the conference to enrich their horizons on a diverse range of cultural norms. It was an invaluable opportunity for students to experience the strength of borderless learning and exchange of ideas and culture.

Before the conference week, our students had begun to prepare their project presentations and cultural performance since the previous September, where they had to formulate a study topic and orchestrate a dance number. Since then, they began to conduct their research, prepare their presentations and rehearse their dance moves. The topics that our two groups of students studied were: The Threats of Dolphins in Hong Kong and The Conservation and Learning Activities of Chinese White Dolphins.

During the conference week, our students not only presented their projects and won the “Most Inspiring Project” award, but also participated in a wide range of activities arranged by the organization. Our students attended a series of workshops and field trips to learn about different environment-related topics and the local community of Landskrona. They also shared the Hong Kong culture with other participants during the Cultural Night. Our students took the honor of taking center stage as the first group of performers, where they danced to a Cantonese contemporary song to represent the pop culture and energetic side of Hong Kong.

Through this conference, they established long-lasting friendships with other participants and gained new perspectives on different environmental conservation methods. Our students truly relished the week and all agree that it was an indelible experience obtained outside of the classroom and a significant part of their secondary school life.
