Three teams of our students were awarded merit prizes
in Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition 2014-2015
The students of these 3 teams were members of Neuroscience Club, a pull-out gifted education programme in Po Leung Kuk Laws Foundation College. They conducted several scientific research projects in DiagCor Biotechnology Laboratory. Their research focuses were neuroprotection offered by traditional Chinese Medicine and various parts of plants.
On March 29, 2015, three teams of our students were pleased to receive merit prizes in Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition 2014-2015.
The topics of the research projects are as follows:
1. The whole-seed extract of Fortunella margarita (Kumquat) reduces neuronal cell death induced by oxidative stress – Implication of the neuroprotective role of Fortunella margarita (Kumquat)’s seeds
2. Can the extract of lemon’s seed help against oxidative stress in neurodegeneration?
3. Dendrobium huoshanense, a type of traditional Chinese Medicine can reduce hydrogen peroxide-induced toxicity in cultured SH-SY5Y cells
On March 28, 2015, the students presented their research findings in the final of Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition 2014-2015.
Team 2: HAU Pak-Chuen (first left) (Leader), SHI Pok-Lai (first right) and CHAU Wai-Hin (centre)
Team 1: CHOW Pak-Chun (first right) (Leader), MA Ho-Him (centre) and HUNG Ying-Chin (first left)
Team 3: MA Ho-Him (left) (Leader) and HO Poon-Kiu (right)
The names of our students were printed on the banner of Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition 2014-2015.
